FMCG Conveyor Systems

FMCG lines run fast, change over often, and carry products that are awkward for opposite reasons. One has come out of a cleanroom and must not be contaminated on the way to packing; the next is abrasive enough to wear out whatever it is carried on. LVP Automation builds conveyor and assembly automation for consumer goods manufacturing, usually into lines that are already running and cannot afford to stop.

The two builds below were both for Irish manufacturers: moving a sealed wet wipes pack out of a cleanroom, and handling Brillo Pads through curing and assembly. Baby Wipes Conveyor Solution

Irish Breeze, Ireland’s only manufacturer of soaps and cotton wool products, needed their patented wet wipes pack moved from a cleanroom through to the packing area — out of a controlled environment, without the product being contaminated on the way.

We used the Belcon mini series, compact enough to take the route without rebuilding it, and added a pusher mechanism to make the 90-degree transfer. The new conveyor was integrated with the conveyors already in place, so the line kept running through the installation rather than stopping for it.

Brillo Pads Conveyor Solution

Brillo Pads are abrasive by design, which makes them a problem for whatever carries them. LVP Automation built a wear-resistant line to move them from the manufacturing machine through to assembly, in as little floor space as the process allowed.

The chain is Acetal, chosen to take that abrasion, in a 62mm width to keep the footprint down. The line also has to hold the pads while they cure, so it is built to withstand the temperature that stage needs. SEW geared motors run it slowly and under control, which is what a curing stage requires — the constraint here is patience rather than throughput.

What the Brillo Line Delivers

Common Questions

Can you convey product out of a cleanroom? Yes. The wet wipes line above takes a sealed pack from a cleanroom through to packing. What matters is the transition point and the materials in contact with the product, so it is worth involving whoever owns the cleanroom validation early.

Can you install without stopping our line? Often, yes. The wipes conveyor was integrated with the conveyors already in place without disrupting production. Whether it is possible depends on where the tie-in points are and how much can be prepared off the line first.

Our product is abrasive. What does that change? Mainly the chain or belt material and how the transfers are built. The Brillo line runs Acetal chain specifically for abrasion resistance. Getting that wrong shows up as wear within months rather than years.

Can a conveyor hold product while it cures? Yes, and it becomes a temperature question as much as a handling one. The Brillo line is built to take the heat of the curing stage and runs slowly under geared-motor control so the pads get the time they need.

How do you turn product through 90 degrees? On the wipes line, a pusher mechanism. Which method suits depends on the pack, its stability and the rate — a pusher, a ball table and a curve all solve it differently.

Will new equipment work with the machinery we already have? That is usually the harder half of the job. Both lines above tie into existing equipment, and the control side of that sits with our PLC programming and panel building work.
