01Eight models, and the two numbers that separate them
The Arca S Series runs from the EASY at 20 m/min and 490 labels a minute, through DYNAMIC at 40 m/min, SHARP 4.0 at 40 m/min and 860 labels, EVOLUTION and EVOLUTION 4.0 at 50 m/min and 950, PERFORMANCE 4.0 at up to 80 m/min and around 1,100 to 1,200, WIND 4.0 at up to 120 m/min and 1,700, to the FLASH 4.0 at 200 m/min and 1,800 labels a minute. Speed is the obvious number. Accuracy is the one that decides whether the pack looks right.
02Accuracy is the specification people under-buy
Placement tolerance runs from plus or minus 1.1 mm on the EASY and DYNAMIC, to plus or minus 0.8 mm on the SHARP 4.0 and EVOLUTION, plus or minus 0.5 mm on the EVOLUTION 4.0 and PERFORMANCE 4.0, and plus or minus 0.3 mm on the WIND 4.0 and FLASH 4.0. On a large carton, 1.1 mm is invisible. On a small pack with a tight artwork window or a label that has to line up with a printed panel, it is the difference between looking finished and looking cheap. Pick the accuracy from the pack, then check the machine at that accuracy is fast enough.
03Speed depends on label width
The headline speed assumes a narrow label. The PERFORMANCE 4.0 runs 80 m/min at 110 mm support width, 70 at 160 mm, 60 at 250 mm and 50 at 350 mm. The WIND 4.0 runs 120 m/min at 110 mm and 100 at 160 mm. So the honest question is not how fast the machine goes, it is how fast it goes with your label on it. Bring the widest label you run to the sizing conversation.
04Reels, cores and how often someone has to stop
Maximum reel diameter is 300 mm on the EASY, DYNAMIC and SHARP 4.0, 360 mm on the EVOLUTION pair and 400 mm on the PERFORMANCE 4.0, WIND 4.0 and FLASH 4.0, with core options of 45, 76 or 100 mm. A bigger reel is not a vanity spec, it is fewer stops per shift, and on a fast line that is real output. Check the core size against what your label supplier actually winds on before you fix the model.
05Industry 4.0 on the 4.0 models
The 4.0 machines add Modbus TCP/IP over Ethernet, an HTTP web server, a REST API for third party integration, an Android app with push notifications and Arca Overview for monitoring several machines together. The feature that earns its keep day to day is range monitoring, which calculates remaining autonomy on the reel, so someone knows a machine is about to run out before it stops rather than after.
06The operator interface
Arca call it MMiI, and the practical version is that parameters can be set several ways, an extended keypad, a graphical slider or plus and minus keys, without a confirmation step, with an undo if you overshoot. There are 90 stored programs on the 4.0 models and 20 on the rest, a jog function for dispensing a single label during setup, change on the fly for adjusting while running, Scanmanager for barcode and QR verification, and SecuMode to lock individual parameters so the settings that matter cannot be nudged.
Configuration and where it sits in the line
Applicators come in right and left hand versions depending on which side the operator works, with vertical configurations, a quick opening arrangement, HPS high precision safe and air jet options. Templates and print data come from labelling software, output can be checked with barcode verification or machine vision, and where the code has to go onto the product itself rather than onto a label, laser marking is the alternative.
