The machine builds the pallet; a person changes it. That single split is what keeps the cost down, because pallet handling (dispensers, outfeed conveyors, the conveyor run to the wrapper) is usually the expensive half of a palletising cell, not the stacking itself. On a lower-volume line where an operator is already in the area, paying for automated pallet handling you will not use is the easiest way to make the numbers stop working.
A safety light barrier guards the pallet bay. Breaking the beam stops motion, so the operator can pull the completed pallet and set an empty one without unlocking a gate or waiting out a long safety sequence, then restart from the HMI. That is the part worth getting right, because on this kind of cell the changeover happens many times a shift and every awkward second in it is multiplied.
Product comes in at low level, which means the existing end-of-line conveyor usually reaches it without a lift, an incline or new steelwork. That is what makes the SEMI something you can drop into a line that was never designed around a palletiser, rather than a project that starts with rebuilding the conveying ahead of it.
Manual stacking varies by operator, by hour and by how heavy the case is at the end of a shift. Controlled moves and centred placement give square layers every time, which protects the packs, cuts rework and makes the load stable enough to wrap properly. The stability gain usually shows up first as fewer collapsed or leaning pallets in the yard rather than as a throughput figure.

Tooling and patterns are matched to your packaging, and common pallet formats including Euro and CHEP run from recipes, with layer sheets where the load needs them. SKU changes are selected at the HMI, so a changeover is a recipe rather than a mechanical job. Rates are sized against your target cases per minute and shift profile at design stage.
The SEMI is designed to be added to. A pallet dispenser, outfeed conveyors, a stretch wrapper handshake and label or marking equipment can all be fitted later as volume justifies them, which turns a single large capital decision into a staged one. Worth raising the intended end state at scoping even if the budget is only for the first stage, because the layout is easier to leave room in than to retrofit.
The COMPACT automatic palletiser is the next step up where the pallet handling should be automatic from the start.
