Primary packaging is the first pack that touches the product, and it sets the shelf life, the presentation and the cost per unit. LVP Automation supplies vertical form fill and seal machines, tray sealing machines and thermoforming machines to food, beverage, medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers across Ireland.
Vertical form fill and seal machines create a bag from a reel of film, fill it and seal it in one continuous cycle, which makes them the standard choice for powders, granules, snacks, frozen product and loose components. Tray sealing machines seal film to a preformed tray, with modified atmosphere options where shelf life has to be extended. Thermoforming machines form the tray or blister from film on the machine itself, fill it and seal it, which reduces packaging cost at volume and suits medical device and pharmaceutical formats.
Choosing between them comes down to product form, required shelf life, pack presentation, changeover frequency and volume. Film specification, sealing temperature control and validation requirements all follow from that. Primary packaging machines are usually fed and discharged by conveyors and followed by labelling and coding and secondary packaging. Our engineers can specify a single machine or the complete line.
