Injection Moulding Automation & Conveyors

Injection moulding is a process that does not stop, and the handling around it has to keep up. Parts leave the machine warm and often delicate, they have to be moved without marking or snagging, and increasingly the process itself has to be measured rather than assumed. LVP Automation builds conveyor systems and automation for injection moulding, including the control and monitoring that sits over the top of it.

The three builds below cover that range: a real-time monitoring system for large-scale moulding, a conveyor for small medical device components, and a lane-switching bottle handling cell. The control work sits with PLC programming and control panel building, layout with conveyor system design, and the equipment itself in plastic belt conveyors. We are based in Finglas, Dublin 11 and work with moulders across Ireland.

Injection Moulding Automation Systems

Moulding shops increasingly need to know what the process actually did, rather than what it was set to do. LVP Automation built and programmed a real-time monitoring system for a large-scale injection moulding operation, capturing data from the process as it runs.

Operators work through PanelView HMIs with individual logins, so working parameters can be adjusted and it is recorded who changed what. We wrote the programme, integrated it and commissioned it on site. On a monitoring system that last part matters more than it sounds, because the value is in whether the data can be trusted, not in how the screens look.

Small Parts Manufacturing Conveyor Systems

Injection-moulded medical device components are small, light and easily marked, and they leave the machine in a way that makes them easy to snag. LVP designed a conveyor to take them from the moulding machine through to the final parts bin without jamming or damage.

The belt is a cleated closed design, so there are no gaps for a small part to catch in and the cleats hold parts in place rather than letting them slide back. Guiderails and wear strips were made for these components rather than adapted to them. The system is built to run continuously, which is the normal expectation on a moulding line.

LVP Carryline Conveyor Bottle Return

Two-litre plastic bottles coming off a moulding line have to be sorted into lanes, and doing that at rate means doing it inside a guarded cell. LVP installed a switch lane pusher conveyor system built around a rotary switch table within a safety cage.

The cage is made from Carryline extrusion profiles, with interlocked doors and Guardmaster interlock relays, so the cell cannot run with a door open and access is controlled rather than trusted. Control is an Allen-Bradley Micro 800 PLC, programmed in CCW.

Can you monitor the moulding process itself, not just move the parts? Yes. The system above captures process data in real time, with operators working through PanelView HMIs under individual logins so parameter changes are attributable.

Our parts are small and delicate. What stops them jamming? Mostly the belt design. A cleated closed belt leaves no gaps for a small part to catch in, and the cleats hold parts in position on the run. Guiderails and wear strips are then made to suit the actual component.

Do you build the guarding as well as the conveyor? Yes. The bottle cell above uses a safety cage in Carryline extrusion profile with interlocked doors and Guardmaster interlock relays, designed as part of the cell rather than fitted around it afterwards.

Who writes the PLC programme? We do. That cell runs on an Allen-Bradley Micro 800 programmed in CCW, and the monitoring system on PanelView HMIs, both written and commissioned by us. See PLC programming.

Can the conveyor run continuously? That is what these are built for. On a moulding line the conveyor is rarely the limiting factor, but it does have to survive running all the time, which affects belt and bearing choice more than it affects the layout.

Do you work with moulding machines from other suppliers? Yes. Most of this work is handling and control around machines somebody else supplied.
