Automotive manufacturing is an unforgiving environment for a conveyor: oil and coolant everywhere, heavy blanks, presses that dictate the cycle, and tolerances at the infeed that decide whether the next station works at all. LVP Automation builds conveyor and handling systems for automotive manufacturing and component supply — feeding presses, accumulating between stations, and moving finished parts through to packing.

The two builds below show the range. One is a press feed line we designed, motor-sized, programmed, panel-built and installed ourselves. The other is a low-friction accumulation conveyor, specified to keep line pressure, heat and noise down. That end-to-end capability sits across conveyor system design, motor sizing and selection, PLC programming and control panel building. We are based in Finglas, Dublin 11 and work with manufacturers across Ireland.

Press Brake Blank Centralising

Aluminium blanks for automotive radiators have to arrive at a 400-ton press centred, in five different sizes, run after run. LVP Automation built the feed line for that job: Oriental stepper motors centralise each blank before it enters the press, and an extendable conveyor takes finished blanks away into shipping crates.

We designed it, sized the motors, wrote the programme, built the electrical panel and installed it. The frames are steel and aluminium, built to cope with an oily environment, and the controls communicate with the customer’s robot pickers and existing press controls rather than replacing them. A remote panel handles size selection, start and stop, and emergency stops.

Low-Friction Accumulation Conveyor

Where product has to accumulate without pushing, line pressure becomes the problem: friction rises, motors draw more current, and the line runs hot and noisy. For an automotive application needing minimal line pressure, we used the Carryline 220mm low-friction conveyor, which runs on FG100P resin.

The low friction keeps motor load down and reduces overcurrent events, and the belt holds a low heat gradient, so the line stays quieter. The material is water-resistant and suitable for cleanroom environments, so the same conveyor works where cleanliness matters as much as durability.

Common Questions

Can you work with our existing press and robots? Yes. On the feed line above, the controls communicate with the customer’s robot pickers and existing press controls rather than replacing them. Integrating with what is already installed is usually cheaper and less disruptive than replacing a control system that works.

Does oil and coolant affect how the conveyor is built? Yes, and it should be raised early. It affects frame material, belt choice and how the transfers are built. The press feed line above uses steel and aluminium frames specifically because of the oily environment it runs in.

Why stepper motors rather than servo? On that application, stepper control gave precise positioning with an easier setup than servo. Which is right depends on the duty. It is a decision worth making on the application rather than by default.

Can one conveyor handle more than one part size? The press feed line centres five different sizes of aluminium blank, selected from a remote panel. How many variants a single line can take depends on how much they differ and how often you change over.

What is line pressure, and why does it matter? When product accumulates, the parts behind push on the parts in front. That friction loads the motor, generates heat and creates noise, and on a marginal drive it causes overcurrent trips. A low-friction belt reduces the push, which is what the second build above is for.

Do you supply the conveyor only, or the whole system? Either. The press feed line above was designed, motor-sized, programmed, panel-built and installed by us. We also supply conveyors to be integrated by others.
