Electronics manufacturing covers two handling problems at once. At one end are components that are heavy and awkward — transformers, large assemblies — that have to be moved around a cell and worked on without being lifted. At the other are products that need presenting to a robot in a known position, every time. LVP Automation builds conveyor systems and work cells for both.

Where a cell involves a robot, the conveyor and the robot have to talk to each other rather than simply run alongside each other, which makes the control work as important as the steelwork. That side sits with PLC programming and control panel building, and the layout with conveyor system design. Robot and cobot options are in industrial robots and cobots. Heavy-Duty Roller and Ball Table Work Cell

Large electronics components are a handling problem before they are an automation problem. Transformers are heavy, awkward to move by hand, and they still have to be worked on while they are in the cell.

Our heavy-duty roller and ball table work cells are built for exactly that. The rollers carry between 40kg and 150kg each, on frames made to suit the size and weight of what is being handled. Ball tables give a full 90-degree transfer, so an operator can turn a bulky component into position rather than lift it, and assembly can carry on with the component still on the table.

Collaborative Robotic Cell

Where the next step is a robot rather than an operator, the conveyor has to present product in a known position at a known moment. In this cell, pallets of electronic products are indexed and separated, then fed into the robot’s pick zone, and the robot picks and places them for the next stage of production.

The conveyor and the robot communicate in both directions in real time, so each waits on the other rather than running to a timer. The control sequences are written for the specific cell, which is what makes the placement repeatable rather than approximate.

Common Questions

How much weight can the rollers take? The heavy-duty rollers used in the work cell above carry between 40kg and 150kg each, with the frame built to suit the size and weight of the component. The right figure depends on what you are handling and how it is supported, so it is worth starting from the part rather than the conveyor.

Can operators work on the product while it is on the conveyor? Yes, and that is the point of a work cell rather than a transport conveyor. The cell above lets operators move transformers around it and assemble further components without taking them off the table.

Can product be turned through 90 degrees without lifting it? That is what the ball table is for. It lets a bulky component be turned into position by hand, which removes a lift that would otherwise need two people or a hoist.

Will the conveyor work with a robot we already have? Usually. What matters is the signalling between the two, so that the conveyor holds product until the robot is ready and the robot only picks when there is something in position. That interlocking is control work rather than mechanical work.

Who writes the control sequences? We do. The cell above uses sequences written specifically for it, and the same team handles the panel that runs them.

Do you work on cells you did not build? Yes. We regularly work on conveyors, panels and machinery installed by other suppliers.
